Who it's for
Anyone who enjoys being able to get a nice relaxing rub-down any time they want. Also those same people that always wanted to try those massage chairs at the mall, but got icked-out by the thought of sitting in a chair sat in by 100s of other mall visitors.
Who should skip
People that hate themselves or don't think they are worthy of feeling loved. Also people that get uncomfortable with a chair that also gives a little glute massage as part of its overall routine.
I love a massage. I love a shoulder or back rub. I wear Mrs. Questionable out always trying to position myself for a back rub. So when the idea of a massage chair came up, I was already pre-positioned for a green light. I didn't know much about massage chairs at the time, other than it seemed you got what you paid for and prices could run high ($1k+), so while I had the green light, I also had a budget. Enter Facebook Marketplace. In the line of things you should NEVER buy new, a massage chair is near the top of the list (along with a pool table, RVs, boats, and patio furniture … trust me). I'll posit that you can go to Facebook Marketplace anywhere near a medium-size metro area and find half a dozen gently-used massage chairs for sale within 30 miles. Why? They take up space. Not a whole room, but enough room for a decent-sized recliner and not every room can fit a recliner into the flow. Also, they don't tend to match your other furniture style, unless your decorator is a big fan of star trek and black leather. So you get a lot of people who fall in love with the idea of a massage chair, but a year or two they realize it doesn't fit their space and often-times just wasn't getting used as much as they thought. Enter opportunity.
How it works.
We parked this chair at our river house where we have the space to make it a permanent fixture in the game room (with our second-hand pool and shuffleboard tables) and the decor is "relax". The chair itself is comfortable, has smooth mechanics and can be reclined with or without a shiatsu massage. The massage controller offers a multitude of options (intensity, focus areas, length of massage, heat and incline), allowing you to tailor and save your favorite settings. It's seldom a time where you won't find someone who has climbed into the chair and fallen asleep 20 minutes into their 30-minute massage. It has become one of the unquestionable stars of the house, so much so my Questionable Father-in-law bought a new chair for his house (despite my second-hand guidance).
The Mrs. Questionable Test.
Win-win for Mrs. Questionable, absolute 5-star return on this purchase. She loves the massage chair, loves that we didn't spend $1k on it, and loves that I don't constantly nag her to rub my shoulders when we are at the river.
Pros
- Really comfortable chair
- Legit shiatsu-esque massage from calf to neck
- I didn't pay retail
Cons
- 30 minutes is the longest pattern
- Needs enough space for the full recline
- Cord can be a tripping hazard if chair not put in the right location.
