Vinyl Moon Record Club
Mr. Questionable Approved
Paid: $99 for a three-month subscription (4 vinyl records)
Great concept. Great customer service. Great production quality. Interesting music. Not a long-term sub (for me), but will shop again and would make a great gift for vinyl record lovers.

Who it's for
Any vinyl record-heads with an intense interest in indie music or someone looking for a couple of interesting music albums that double as works of art.
Who should skip
Anyone expecting to get an album filled with songs and artists you hear on the radio everyday.
I stumbled across the Vinyl Moon Record Club while searching online for some different places to expand my vinyl record collection. They've been around for over a decade and had some strong reviews so I decided to give it a chance with a three-month subscription for $99 that included a bonus 4th vinyl record with my first month, a monthly post card single (literally a printed postcard in the mail that you can play on your record player) and some digital downloads.
I LOVE this concept and Vinyl Moon crushes the subscriber customer service experience with great communication on your subscription details, upcoming orders, etc. The albums are high quality, sound great, and look amazing on my Fuse Audio record player thanks to their gorgeous custom artwork. Equally as impressive are the custom designed album covers and sleeves, truly each a work of art. They look amazing on display on the walls of the Parlor. Of the seven Vinyl Moon records I ordered (I extended my subscription by another three months) there are three albums that I'm happy to periodically put on and let them play fully through and a good mix of songs that I'll skip around and listen to on the other four albums.
How it works.
Depending on your past experiences, I definitely did Vinyl Moon dirty by referring to them as Columbia House in the headline. The only thing Columbia House related is their mail-order delivery. Their customer service for subscribing and unsubscribing was all click of a button. No hunting around trying to figure out how to stop your order and no nefarious pricing strategies. Though I wish Vinyl Moon success in mirroring Columbia House's near 71-year run. Who knew they were still in business up until a few weeks ago?!
For subscriptions, albums ship at the first of the month with digital downloads sent via email and the postcard single sent about two weeks after the vinyl delivery. I would be interested in just subscribing to the monthly postcard single, but that is not currently an option. Also, they sell remaining vinyls from prior month subscription orders as single products.
Also, if anyone knows where you can order your own true "mix tape" vinyl records with whatever songs you want to include, send me an email guilty@questionable-judgement.com. There are some cassette tape and burned CD mixes I'd love to add to my vinyl collection.
The Mrs. Questionable Test.
Does she know I was paying $33 an album? Probably not. Did she dig a couple of the albums and ask me with interest more than a few times "who is this?" Yes. Does she agree the albums look cool and add another nice element to the Parlor? Yes. Would she purchase this as a gift for me or someone else that loved music? Yes, absolutely.
Pros
- Beautiful custom made records and album covers with original artwork
- High-quality sound and some interesting artists curated by the staff
- Fun to get a new album in the mail once a month
Cons
- $33 an album is expensive
- Mixed bag from month to month on types of artists and appeal of the music
